Sometimes I end up doing my projects a bit late, but this time I'm pretty sure that I'm going for my very own personal record. As usual Artisan Guild has a monthly painting contest with a deadline the 25th of this month, and I have just started on my project :) This could be OK if it was one of the usual painting contests but this time it a diorama building competition with their latest dwarf models.
So the plan right now is to complete a diorama featuring 4 painted models, a completely painted winter landscape a cozy tavern, a small lake with realistic looking ice and if time permit a couple of light effects and a bit of wildlife in the forest areas as detailing.
I might end up with a couple of late nights this weekend :) Well anyway back to the project. So far I have reached the following.
I started with a sketch on the cut out piece of MDF board. Hill with trees to the left, a small path with the adventures, a lake in the front and the tavern in the top right corner.
A lot of blue and yellow foam combined with some plaster "rock castings" I had laying around in case I needed them for a project :)
Added a bunch of filler in all the gaps and on all surfaces. Added a bit of smaller rocks around the "mountain" sections.
Just a closeup of the surface after I have added the filler.
First step in painting the rocks. Looks really weird but it will end up looking as a realistic rock surface when it is finished.
I just paint all of the "Earth" brown, I'll create the effect of grass and dirt using flock so it's not that importaint.
Just a small side project. Epoxy casting of the ice for the lake. This should be ready to break into smaller pieces tomorrow.
While I was active a couple of printers worked on the tavern. I cut the parts in "Meshmixer" so it would fit in the corner. This is going to be a great diorama :) The models have been printed on my Anycubic photon and are ready for painting.
I'm going to work on the diorama tomorrow though as there are a lot of parts that require drying and I only have 5 days to finish this.
